Commonly Asked Questions For Pistachio Cream Cold Foam

What is Pistachio cold foam?

Cold foam is a frothy airy milk foam that can be made from milk or cream of any kind. Cold foams generally serve as a topping for iced coffee beverages such as cold brew.

What milk is best for Pistachio cold foam?

Any milk will work to create a cold foam. Though any kind of milk work, the best milk will be ones that are thicker, creamier, fatter, and have a higher protein content in them. The high protein and fat content will create a longer-lasting cold foam as it will hold onto air bubbles longer. Plus, those milk are generally creamier so it’ll give you a very creamy cold foam. You can also use heavy cream or half and a half or even creamers to make a cold foam but keep in mind the flavoring and consistency you’re going for will be slightly affected by what you choose to use.

What is the difference between cold foam and hot foam?

Cold foam and hot foam are basically the same things. Only one is made hot and one is made cold. Cold foam is made from cold milk or cream and can be made pretty easily and serves as a topper for iced drinks. Meanwhile, hot foam is made from steamed or hot milk and serves as a topper for hot drinks.

Can I use plant milk or low-fat milk when making Pistachio cold foam?

Yes, you can use any type of milk for making cold foam. With that said keep in mind that not all milk will produce the same consistency of cold foam and some will be more airy or long-lasting than others.

Can I add Pistachio cream cold foam to any drink?

Yes and no, you can add cold foam to any drink but for instance, if you were to add cold foam to a hot drink the cold foam wouldn’t hold out very well and would probably melt into the drink rather than float on top like a normal cold foam. So, for that reason, we suggest using the cold foam only on cold drinks and hot foam only on hot drinks.

How do you make Pistachio Cream cold foam without a frother?

You can use several tools you’d find in your kitchens such as a whisk, mason jar, french press, immersion blender, handheld mixer, blender, and shaker bottle. The moral of the story is if you don’t have a milk frother then don’t worry because you probably have one of these tools available to use so you can create your cold foam without having to go out and buy a milk frother.

Pistachio Cold Foam ingredients and equipment

Equipment

  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring spoons
  • Milk frother
    • There are a ton of methods that work for frothing milk if you don’t own a milk frother. You can use all of the below…
      • Mason Jar- simply add your ingredients to your mason jar and tighten the lid. Once your lid is on you can shake your mason jar until your cold foam is formed.
      • French press- add your ingredients to your french press and put the lid on it. Using the french press plunger, plunge the mixture until your milk foam is formed.
      • Whisk- using a whisk, whisk your ingredients vigorously until your desired cold foam is made.
      • Shaker bottle- add ingredients to a shaker bottle and tighten the lid. Once the lid is secure you can shake your mixture until your cold foam is formed.
      • Immersion blender- this works best in a tall cup or bowl due to splattering. Add your ingredients to a tall cup or bowl and insert your immersion blender. When the immersion blender is immersed you can turn it on and let it blend your mixture until your cold foam is made.
      • Hand-held mixer- just like using an immersion blender, you’ll want to use a tall cup or bowl so you prevent a huge splatter mess. Once your ingredients are in your cup or bowl you can mix the mixture using your handheld mixer until your cold foam is formed.
      • Blender- add your ingredients to your blender and secure the lid. Once the lid is secure you can turn on the blender and let the mixture blend until your cold foam is made.

Ingredients

  • Milk- any milk of your choice will go well with this recipe whether it be plant-based milk or dairy kinds of milk, nonfat, low fat or high-fat milk, etc. The fatter more protein-heavy the milk is the better it will hold its form and hold bubbles. This is due to the chemical makeup of the milk or in other words the protein molecule structure, the structure of the protein allows the milk to hold air better and maintain its form better.
  • Heavy cream- This will make your cold foam consistency a lot thicker and creamier. The cold foam will also hold its shape better because it will be a lot heavier using this. While you can make a cold foam using just milk you can use heavy cream or half and a half and you’ll notice the difference.
  • Pistachio syrup- either a store-bought or a homemade syrup will work for this recipe
  • Sweeteners: sugar, honey, maple syrup, simple syrup, brown sugar, agave nectar, monk fruit, etc.
  • Topping: pistachio shavings or crushed pistachios will serve as the cutest topper for your cold foam!
